News about the 2007 campaign and crop development
03/07/2007: It’s greening all around – Satellites show the earlier-than-usual development of vegetation
Across Europe, vegetation is in an exceptionally advanced state compared to long term average. Actually, due to a lack of proper dormancy, winter rapeseed and winter wheat crops, as well as most of the vegetation, are in a 4-weeks-earlier development state throughout the continent. The media reports on it a lot these last days. The reason is the mild winter and the satellite image of mid-February (cw 7) confirms this information.
There where no clouds or snow prevent us from looking at the ground (white areas), it is green. In the important growing areas like France and Germany, but also in the eastern European countries like Poland and The Czech Republic, the difference satellite image shows by the green colouring that the biomass is much further developed than normal. Pictures of fields and landscapes also reveal this very nicely.

Throughout the season this year too, our team will observe the development of the vegetation for you by analysing the satellite images.
