Harvested vs. forecasted : The 2007 yield figures
08/06/2007: IntelCrop again beats the bests in yield prognoses of French wheat
Again in 2007 IntelCrop precisely forecasted the wheat harvest in France although weather conditions were quite unusual. As the harvest is almost finished, the French Cereal Organisation ONIGC communicated the first results. Therefore 6.9 tonnes soft wheat per hectare were harvested this year. IntelCrop had estimated 7.0 t/ha since May and thereby achieved a great success. Better than all other forecast services, which also comprise the well-known national American and European organizations, IntelCrop not only achieved the highest prognosis quality, but also the best prognoses at the earliest time for the third year in a row. Already in May, 12 weeks before harvest, the prognosis model computed this precise value and thereby struck even the local French forecast experts in the competion for the best yield estimations.
Due to more frequently arising weather extremes (unusual increase of temperature in March 2007, unusually hot and dry conditions in April and heavy amounts of precipitation in June and July) the experience-based yield estimates become more difficult. Growing models of the arable crops combined with information derived from satellite images however are able to reliably simulate the yield development process.
